DIY: laurel wreath

Foglie di Lauro nobilis,
per preparare una corona decorativa e come scorta d’aroma pronta all’uso.

Lauro nobilis leaves, to prepare a decorative wreath and to spare aroma ready to be used.

L’alloro è una pianta sempreverde spesso poco considerata in giardino, molto rustica e di facile coltivazione, si presta a formare barriere verdi e alte siepi. Se lo spazio lo permette, coltiviamo anche un singolo esemplare per poter disporre in abbondanza delle sue foglie che hanno molteplici proprietà erboristiche e medicamentose e rilasciano un’aroma apprezzato in tante preparazioni domestiche. Per chi voglia fare abbondante scorta di foglie di alloro, raccolte nel proprio giardino o richieste all’ortolano di fiducia, è facile creare un’utile corona bella anche per decorare la nostra cucina. Occorrono foglie  fresche di Lauro nobilis  lavate ed asciugate e fil di ferro a cui daremo la forma di un cerchio di circa 10 centimetri di diametro.

The laurel is an evergreen plant often under-considered in the garden, very rough and easy to grow, it lends itself to form green barriers and high hedges. If space allows, we may also grow it in a single specimen to assure its leaves in abundance, they have multiple properties, both herbal and medicinal and release an appreciated aroma in many household preparations. For those wishing to collect a copious supply of laurel leaves, from our own garden or requested to the greengrocer of trust, it’s easy to create a useful and beautiful wreath also nice as kitchen decoration. We need fresh leaves of Lauro nobilis washed and dried and about 20 inches of wire to which we will give the form a
circle of approximately 10 inches in diameter.

Formiamo un anello su un’estremità, nell’altra infiliamo più foglie fresche fino a completare la corona che chiuderemo con un’altro anello passante nel primo. Sul punto di unione, un nastro di tessuto, rafia o una corda, per appenderla.

We need to create a small ring on one end, making sure to lock it with a tiny ring around the wire itself, then we’ll have inset the fresh leaves through the other end, to complete the wreath we’ll close with another loop passing through the former. At the point of union, a fabric ribbon, some raffia or a string to hang it up.

Ogni anno prepareremo nuove scorte in quanto con il passare del tempo i principi attivi diminuiscono. Per questo lavoro consiglio di farvi aiutare anche dai bimbi di casa.

Consiglio… fatela più piccola, meno foglie e meno lavoro con uguale risultato!

Every year we better prepare new stocks because as time goes by its active properties diminish. For this work i suggest you may also ask for help to the children of the house.

Advice… make it small, fewer leaves and less work with the same result!
